Claric Energy Privacy Notice

The short version. Claric Energy works entirely on your PC. It has no account and asks for no personal details. It transmits nothing at all unless you either switch on diagnostic sharing or press the “Something looks wrong” button. Your model file is never uploaded, and its file name and folder path are never transmitted in any form.

1. Who we are

2. When Claric Energy transmits anything

There are exactly two paths that leave your computer. Nothing is sent when Revit starts, when it closes, or on any timer.

(a) Diagnostic sharing — off until you turn it on

The first time Claric Energy has something worth reporting, it shows you the payload and asks. If you decline, nothing is sent. If you accept, that choice is remembered and subsequent runs upload without asking again — you can switch it off at any time from the results window. Turning it off also discards anything still waiting to be sent.

(b) “Something looks wrong” — one press, one report

A button in the results window lets you tell us the numbers look wrong even though Claric Energy's own checks passed. Because pressing it is itself the request to send, this one report is transmitted even if diagnostic sharing is off. The dialog shows what will be sent before you press it.

Both paths post to https://api.kephalabs.com/v1/claric/surveys, a server we operate ourselves in the Republic of Korea.

3. What the diagnostic report contains

It is a technical description of what Claric Energy did and where it disagreed with itself:

Claric Energy and Revit version numbers, your interface language code, and a timestamp.
Counts and totals — how many zones and surfaces, how many of each kind, how long it took, and roughly sixty internal counters describing which processing paths ran.
The checks that ran and any that failed, as sentences with model-derived names removed.
For a small number of surfaces involved in a failed check: real dimensions (area, length, height, thickness, orientation) and the boundary polygon, re-centred on a local origin so the location within the building is not recoverable.
Settings you chose that affect the reading — for example which level you designated as ground, and how many rooms you marked unconditioned.

4. What is never sent

Your model file. No .rvt or any part of one is uploaded.
File names and folder paths. These are never included. The file name is used only on your PC, to compute a one-way SHA-256 hash salted with your installation ID. That hash lets us tell “this is the same model again” apart from “this is a different model” without us being able to recover the name.
Room, level, zone and type names. Claric Energy writes model-derived names inside single quotes throughout its diagnostics, and strips everything inside quotes before transmission. Where a name could not follow that convention — level names and phase names — the value is dropped entirely and only a count or a yes/no is sent.
Your name, e-mail, company, or project name. There are no fields for them. Claric Energy has no account system.

Redaction is a code convention, not a mathematical guarantee. We treat any text we did not write ourselves — such as an error message handed to us by Revit or by Windows — as unknown content and run it through the same stripping, but we would rather tell you it is a convention than imply a certainty we cannot prove.

5. The free-text box is sent exactly as you type it

The “Something looks wrong” report includes whatever you write in it, unedited. That is the point of the field — it is the only way to tell us something our checks cannot detect. If you type a room name, a project name, a client name or anything else personal, it is transmitted and stored as written. The dialog says so before you press send. Please keep personal data out of it.

6. The installation ID

On first use Claric Energy generates a random identifier (a GUID) and stores it at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Claric\install-id.txt. It is sent with every report so that repeated reports from one installation can be read together, and so the server can reject floods of junk. It is not derived from your hardware, your Windows account, or anything about you, and it is not linked to any name or address. It persists until you delete that file — doing so simply causes a new random ID to be generated. Deleting the whole %LOCALAPPDATA%\Claric folder removes the ID, the local log, and your sharing choice.

7. Storage, retention and access

Reports are stored in a database on our own server in the Republic of Korea. Stored reports are deleted automatically after 365 days. Access is restricted to a named allow-list of KephaLabs operators, behind an identity gate at the network edge and a second check in the application.

Claric Energy's own code does not collect or store IP addresses. As with any web request, network infrastructure in front of the application (our reverse proxy and CDN provider) may record connection metadata including IP addresses in operational logs for a limited period.

8. Why we may lawfully process this

Diagnostic sharing runs on your consent, given in the dialog and revocable at any time from the results window. The “Something looks wrong” report runs on consent given by the act of pressing send. Where this data is not personal data at all — which is our aim and our design — data-protection law does not apply to it; where any of it is treated as personal data, consent is the basis we rely on.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data about you, and to withdraw consent. You can withdraw consent yourself at any time by unticking sharing in the results window. For anything else, write to [email protected].

Please note a practical limit: to locate reports we would need the installation ID from your PC, because that is the only identifier that exists. Nothing in our store is linked to a person, so we cannot find “your” records from your name or e-mail alone. Send us the contents of install-id.txt and we can delete everything associated with it.

10. Third parties

Claric Energy contains no analytics SDK, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. It does not use any AI service. Reports go only to our own server. We do not sell or share this data.

11. Changes

If what Claric Energy sends changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Material changes to what is collected will be reflected in the in-app dialog too, since that dialog shows you the actual payload before sending.
